Who We Are

Headquartered on the traditional unceded territory of the Algonquin nation (known as Ottawa, Canada), Youth Climate Lab was founded in May 2017 to support and strengthen the next generation of leaders to shake up the status quo of climate inaction. Since then, we’ve designed and piloted 50+ projects with 100+ partners and collaborators to reach young people in 100+ countries, and employed 45+ youth in paid positions.

Our Vision

For young people - no matter who they are or where they are from - to catalyze transformative climate action in their communities to the highest levels of decision-making.

Impact Snapshot

  • Our RAD (Research, Activate, Deepen) Cohort received a Canada SDG Youth Award, which recognizes the contributions of young people across what is currently Canada towards achieving the UN Sustainable Development Goals, in the category of “Environmental Sustainability and Climate Action”

  • Our panel proposal “How are You(th) Showing up for Climate Action?” was selected for the 2022 South by Southwest (SXSW) festival, engaging new-to-climate audiences on the journeys and solutions of young climate leaders from the YCL global community

  • Out of the 33+ policy recommendations that came out of our Our2030 Policy Jams (2019), nine were addressed in the “Towards Canada’s 2030 Agenda National Strategy”

“Collaborating with YCL definitely exceeded my expectations. The folks at YCL prioritized youth every step of the way, and were prepared to adapt and shift approaches based on what the youth we were working with needed.”
